Here I'll show you how you too can draw Gary in pencil. Gary is SpongeBob's pet snail. 

Within the Spongebob Squarepants series, snails are analogous to cats, and as such Gary vocalizes like one. He has an interest in poetry. SpongeBob can apparently translate Gary's meows and purrs. A running gag on the show is that SpongeBob must not forget to feed him. Gary has talked a few times in the series, such as the episode The Secret Box where Gary says "no" to SpongeBob. 

In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie he yells: "meow, Plankton." He is voiced by Tom Kenny. Gary is shown to be Patrick's cousin in the episode Rule of Dumb. Also, despite his limited speech, he is shown to be one of the smarter SpongeBob SquarePants characters.
